Don’t Risk Your Life With These 3 Weight Loss Myths
Advice about weight loss is a popular topic in most health magazines. The problem is some of these work, others won’t. Needless to say, the fad diets, pills, and weight loss supplements are the ones that won’t. A valid tip for everyone to follow is to eat sensibly and exercise.
Unfortunately, there is incorrect information and myths surrounding the entire industry of weight loss, and truths become easily twisted to serve companies trying to sell products, or simply from ignorance. I would like to talk about three of these myths.
Myth #1: It is possible to decrease fat in specific areas of the body: False. Any reputable weight loss professional will wholeheartedly agree. Regardless of how you workout, you will not be able to spot reduce on your body no matter what the circumstances. Performing daily leg lifts and crunches aiming at lessening belly fat, will actually decrease the muscle mass underneath your abdomen. This is when you should be including a healthy diet to help speed up your metabolism so it can help burn fat faster, instead of focusing on crunches or leg lifts as the only option.
Myth#2: Dramatically reducing your daily calorie intake will diminish your body fat: False. Many people have found themselves on the edge of crash dieting by subscribing to this myth. Out of desperation, a person crash dieting to shed excess weight, eventually finds that they are damaging their bodies instead. Truthfully, if you start to starve your body, it will sense that you are trying to kill it, an it will enter a self-preserving ’starvation mode’. In this mode, your body responds to the perceived threat by slowing your metabolism and burning your muscles to produce energy, avoiding using the unwanted fat that your body keeps in reserve. So now, not only are you not achieving the desired result of losing fat, but you are undermining your health by putting your body’s muscle in jeopardy. When you’re finally off your crash diet, you’ll gain even more weight than before.
Myth #3: The only type of exercise that will assist in your weight loss is cardio: False. Yes, Cardio is useful in helping you lose fat, but aerobics are an excellent alternative with the same benefits. The advantages of these two types of exercise are very similar. An even better choice of exercise which is considered better that aerobics or cardio is weight lifting, because it burns fat during the workout as well after you stop. So, a combination of weightlifting and cardio will help you maximize your long term fat loss.
My goal for this article is that it gives you the real truths about weight loss.
